﴾120﴿ Wa lan tardaa 'ankal Yahoodu wa lan Nasaaraa hattaa tattabi'a millatahum; qul inna hudal laahi huwalhudaa; wa la'init taba'ta ahwaaa'ahum ba'dal lazee jaaa'aka minal 'ilmimaa laka minal laahi minw waliyyinw wa laa naseer
﴾121﴿ Allazeena aatainaahumul Kitaaba yatloonahoo haqqa tilaawatiheee ulaaa'ika yu'minoona bih; wa mai yakfur bihee fa ulaaa'ika humul khaasiroon
﴾122﴿ Yaa Baneee Israaa'eelaz-kuroo ni'matiyal lateee an'amtu 'alaikum wa annee faddaltukum 'alal 'aalameen
﴾123﴿ Wattaqoo yawmal laa tajzee nafsun 'an nafsin shai 'anw wa laa yuqbalu minhaa 'adlunw wa laa tanfa'uhaa shafaa 'atunw wa laa hum yunsaroon

﴾120﴿ And the Jews and the Christians will never be pleased with you until you follow their way.
Say, surely the religion of Allah is the only true and complete religion.
And if you follow their desires after knowledge has come to you from the Quran, you will have neither protector nor helper against Allah.
﴾121﴿ Those to whom We have given the Book recite it as it should be recited.
They are the ones who believe in it, and whoever disbelieves in it, they are truly the losers.
﴾122﴿ O children of Ya’qub (peace be upon him), remember My favor that I bestowed upon you, and indeed I granted you excellence over all people.
﴾123﴿ And fear the Day when no soul can substitute for another in anything, nor will any ransom be accepted from it, nor will any intercession benefit it, nor will they be helped.

[120] In this verse, the opposition and stubbornness of the People of the Book is mentioned, and the importance of protecting oneself from their religion.
This is the second matter, showing that unity with them is not possible.
“Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the guidance” means that the first guidance refers to the religion of Allah, which is Islam, and the second refers to the true and complete religion.
“Their desires” refers to Judaism and Christianity, which are contrary to the religion of Islam.
“You have no protector” is addressed to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace), but it is intended for the whole community.
[121] This is the third matter, which is a transmitted proof from those who accepted the previous scripture.
“As it should be recited” means to understand and act upon it, and not to distort its words or meanings.
The second meaning is that they follow the book as it deserves to be followed.
“They believe in it”—this pronoun refers either to the Quran (knowledge) or to the final Messenger.
The same possibilities exist for the pronoun in “whoever disbelieves in it.”
[122] In this verse, there is encouragement to affirm the final Messenger (May Allah bless him and give him peace), and it directs them towards the religion of Ibrahim.
[123] In this verse, there is a warning of the Hereafter for those who deny the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace), just as it was mentioned in the previous verse (48).
In that verse, the pronouns refer to the first soul (the one not guilty), while in this verse, they refer to the second soul (the guilty one).
