الم 39 اَلٌبَقَرَة

مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِلَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَجِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَالَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَدُوٌّ لِلْكَافِرِينَ ﴿۹۸﴾ وَلَقَدْ أَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ آيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ وَمَا يَكْفُرُ بِهَا إِلَّا الْفَاسِقُونَ ﴿۹۹﴾ أَوَكُلَّمَا عَاهَدُوا عَهْدًا نَبَذَهُ فَرِيقٌ مِنْهُمْ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿۱۰۰﴾ وَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِمَا مَعَهُمْ نَبَذَ فَرِيقٌ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَرَاءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿۱۰۱﴾

﴾98﴿ Man kaana 'aduwwal lillaahi wa malaaa'ikatihee wa Rusulihee wa Jibreela wa Meekaala fa innal laaha 'aduwwul lilkaafireen
﴾99﴿ Wa laqad anzalnaaa ilaika Aayaatim baiyinaatinw wa maa yakfuru bihaaa illal faasiqoon
﴾100﴿ Awa kullamaa 'aahadoo ahdan nabazahoo fareequm minhum; bal aksaruhum laa yu'minoon
﴾101﴿ Wa lammaa jaaa'ahum Rasoolum min 'indil laahi musaddiqul limaa ma'ahum nabaza fareequm minal lazeena ootul Kitaaba Kitaabal laahi waraaa'a zuhoorihim ka annahum laa ya'lamoon

﴾98﴿ Whoever is an enemy to Allah, His angels, His messengers, Gabriel (peace be upon him), and Michael (peace be upon him), then indeed, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers.

﴾99﴿ And indeed, We have sent down to you clear signs (with clear meanings), and none disbelieve in them except the defiantly disobedient people.
﴾100﴿ Is it not that whenever they made a covenant, a group among them broke it? Rather, most of them do not believe.
﴾101﴿ And whenever a messenger came to them from Allah, confirming what was with them, a group among those who were given the Book cast the Book of Allah behind their backs, as if they did not know.

[98] In this verse, there is an admonition regarding enmity toward Gabriel (peace be upon him), and this is a second response.
The point is that enmity toward Gabriel is equivalent to enmity toward Allah, all of His messengers, and all of His angels—and this is an act of disbelief.
“وَجِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَالَ” — both are among the angels, but they are mentioned specifically here because the dispute between the Prophet and the Jews centered around them.
[99] In this verse, there is an admonition regarding the denial of the Noble Quran, and the reason for it is corrupt belief (فسق اعتقادی).
This also serves as a response: these clear signs (آیات بینات) were revealed through Gabriel (peace be upon him), and disbelief in them stems from internal moral corruption in belief.
[100] This verse contains an admonition about their breaking of covenants and their lack of faith. It is also connected to the previous response—that they continuously break every covenant and act with disbelief, so why do they criticize Gabriel (peace be upon him)?
“بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ” — most of them are from this very group, indicating that not just a few, but many are guilty. Or it could mean that the majority are different from the group that accepted the covenant—they are those who never accepted the covenant in the first place.
The covenants referred to here are the ones repeatedly mentioned in this surah using the word “mīthāq” (pledge).
[101] This verse is an admonition showing that they abandoned acting upon their Book and rejected this Messenger—and this too was due to their enmity toward Gabriel (peace be upon him).
Note 1: Even if you preserve the Book in silk and show it honor, but do not act upon it, it is still considered as throwing it behind your back. This is how the Jews treated their own Book.
Note 2: This verse proves that any scholar who does not act upon his knowledge is like the ignorant masses.
