عَمَِّ 1545 ْ اَلْعَلَق

َ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى ﴿۱۳﴾ أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَى ﴿۱۴﴾ كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ ﴿۱۵﴾ نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ ﴿۱۶﴾ فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ ﴿۱۷﴾ سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ ﴿۱۸﴾ كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ۩ ࣛ ﴿۱۹﴾

﴾13﴿ Ara-aita in kaz zaba wa ta walla
﴾14﴿ Alam y'alam bi-an nal lahaa yaraa
﴾15﴿ Kalla la illam yantahi la nasfa'am bin nasiyah
﴾16﴿ Nasiyatin kazi batin khaatiah
﴾17﴿ Fal yad'u naadiyah
﴾18﴿ Sanad 'uz zabaaniyah
﴾19﴿ Kalla; la tuti'hu wasjud waqtarib (make sajda)

﴾13﴿ Do you see if he denies and turns away
﴾14﴿ Does he not know that indeed Allah sees
﴾15﴿ Never! If he does not desist, We will surely seize him by the forelock
﴾16﴿ A lying, sinful forelock
﴾17﴿ Then let him call his assembly
﴾18﴿ Soon We will call the guards of Hell (Zabaniyah)
﴾19﴿ Never! Do not obey him; rather, prostrate and draw near to Allah

[13,14] This verse contains a warning and mentions further traits of the denier.
He denied—refers to his rejection through speech.
And turned away—refers to his rejection through action.
[15,16] This verse is a warning of the Hereafter directed at the denier.
By the forelock—refers to the hair at the front of the head that hangs over the forehead. It symbolizes control or disgrace. This may also allude to those who style their hair in ways contrary to the Sunnah of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace), resembling Western styles, which are common among those who oppose the truth and among the wealthy elite.
Lying—refers to falsehood in speech.
Sinful—refers to wrongdoing in actions.
[17,18] This too is part of the warning. If the denier claims that he has companions and supporters who will help and defend him, the verse indicates that he may call them—but they will be of no benefit to him.
His assembly (nādiyyah)—refers to his gathering place or council, but only when the members of that assembly are actually present.
The Zabāniyah—comes from zabn, meaning to push forcefully. They are the angels who will seize the disbelievers and violently thrust them into Hell, as mentioned in Surah At-Tūr (52:13). Their qualities are also described in Surah At-Taḥrīm (66:6).
[19] And prostrate—in times of intense opposition from the deniers, it is essential to direct one’s focus solely to Allah, and that is through prostration. Here, the command is for steadfastness and continuity. The literal meaning is to perform sajdah (prostration), and that is why actual prostration is required at this point in recitation. Some say that mentioning sajdah here refers to the entire prayer (ṣalāh).
And draw near—this is the purpose of prostration, as mentioned in an authentic hadith: the closest a servant is to Allah is during prostration. The meaning here is: seek closeness to Allah through the recitation of the Qur’an and prostration.
