عَمَِّ 1522 اَلْغَاشِیَه
َ وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاعِمَةٌ ﴿۸﴾ لِسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ ﴿۹﴾ فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ ﴿۱۰﴾ لَا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَةً ﴿۱۱﴾ فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ ﴿۱۲﴾ فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَرْفُوعَةٌ ﴿۱۳﴾ وَأَكْوَابٌ مَوْضُوعَةٌ ﴿۱۴﴾ وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ ﴿۱۵﴾ وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ ﴿۱۶﴾ أَفَلَا يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ ﴿۱۷﴾ وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ ﴿۱۸﴾
﴾8﴿ Wujoohuny yawma 'izin naa'imah
﴾9﴿ Lisa'yihaa raadiyah
﴾10﴿ Fee jannatin 'aaliyah
﴾11﴿ Laa tasma'u feehaa laaghiyah
﴾12﴿ Feehaa 'aynun jaariyah
﴾13﴿ Feehaa sururum marfoo'ah
﴾14﴿ Wa akwaabum mawdoo'ah
﴾15﴿ Wa namaariqu masfoofah
﴾16﴿ Wa zaraabiyyu mabsoosah
﴾17﴿ Afalaa yanzuroona ilalibili kaifa khuliqat
﴾18﴿ Wa ilas samaaa'i kaifa rufi'at
﴾8﴿ Some faces on that day will be radiant
﴾9﴿ Rejoicing because of their deeds
﴾10﴿ They will be in a lofty Paradise
﴾11﴿ They will not hear any idle talk in it
﴾12﴿ In it, there will be flowing springs
﴾13﴿ In it, there will be elevated thrones
﴾14﴿ And goblets set in place
﴾15﴿ And cushions will be lined up in rows
﴾16﴿ And carpets will be spread out
﴾17﴿ Do they not then look at the camels, how they were created
﴾18﴿ And at the sky, how it has been raised high
[8,9,10,11] This mention refers to the people of the second category, in the manner of glad tidings in ten aspects.
(عَالِيَةٍ): Higher than the heavens, or its rank and status are higher than the heavens.
(لَاغِيَةً): This word is general and includes every vain word, lie, backbiting, slander, words of disbelief and polytheism, cursing, and any sinful and idle speech. These are not heard because the people of Paradise speak only words of wisdom, praise and glorification of Allah the Exalted, and truthful speech.
[12] A spring—this refers to a type, meaning many channels such as Kafur, Salsabil, and Tasnim.
A flowing stream—flows on the surface of the earth without a ditch, running to each resident of Paradise according to their will.
[13] Elevated—their rank and status are high, or they are raised in the air, and when a resident of Paradise wishes to sit on them, these thrones lower for him and then rise again.
[14] Set down—one meaning is that they are prepared and placed beside rivers and springs. The second meaning is that they are placed before them for their pleasure.
[15] Namarīq is the plural of numruqah, meaning cushions or small pillows that are arranged in rows next to each other.
[16] Zarābī is the plural of zarībah, referring to carpets and rugs that have decorative fringes at their edges. This points to four blessings, just as in the gatherings of the wealthy where on one side there are goblets and pitchers, and on the other side there are cushions and carpets. The gatherings of Paradise are far higher and better than these.
[17] In this verse and the following ones are signs of the power of Allah in giving reward and punishment.
Also, in this is a response to a doubt related to the elevated thrones in Paradise—how will the people of Paradise ascend them if they are so high? The answer is given by referring to camels: see how tall they are, yet when it is time to ride, they lower themselves.
This also connects to what is mentioned later: when you are one who reminds and calls others, four qualities are at work in you—obedience to elders and gentleness with the young, like the nature of a camel.
How was it created?—this refers to the wondrous creation of animals, especially those possessing amazing traits. Animals are of four types: those that provide milk, those used for riding, those that are eaten (their meat), and those that carry loads. All four of these traits are found in the camel.
Although the elephant is also a remarkable creature, it does not offer these benefits, and it was also not present near the Arabs.
[18] This too is a sign of the power of Allah and a proof of His Oneness. It is connected to “goblets placed in order,” meaning that the sun, moon, and stars are beautifully arranged in the sky in a precise order. This is like the example of goblets arranged in order in Paradise.
