عَمَُّْ ْ 1508 اَلْاِنْشِقَاق

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ ﴿۱﴾ وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ﴿۲﴾ وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ ﴿۳﴾ وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ ﴿۴﴾ وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ﴿۵﴾ يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنْسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَى رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ ﴿۶﴾ فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ ﴿۷﴾

﴾2﴿ Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat
﴾3﴿ Wa izal ardu muddat
﴾4﴿ Wa alqat maa feehaa wa takhallat
﴾5﴿ Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat
﴾6﴿ Yaaa ayyuhal insaanu innaka kaadihun ilaa Rabbika kad han famulaaqeeh
﴾7﴿ Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenih

﴾2﴿ And it listens to the command of its Lord, and it is rightful that it listens
﴾3﴿ And when the earth is stretched out
﴾4﴿ And it casts out what is within it and becomes empty
﴾5﴿ And it listens to the command of its Lord, and it is rightful that it listens
﴾6﴿ O human! Indeed, you are laboring toward your Lord with great exertion, and you will meet Him
﴾7﴿ Then as for the one who is given his record in his right hand

The Splitting Asunder

And another name for this Surah is Inshiqat.
Relevancy: This Surah shares several aspects with the previous Surah. The first aspect is that in the previous Surah, there was a warning against fraud and denial, whereas in this Surah, there is encouragement toward righteous effort. The second aspect is that in the previous Surah, the state of the record of deeds after death was mentioned, while in this Surah, their state on the Day of Judgment is described.
Claim of this surah: This Surah encourages striving in righteous effort (kadh saalih) for an easy reckoning (hisaab yaseer) and receiving the record of deeds in the right hand. It also warns against evil striving (kadh sayyi’) to avoid a severe reckoning (hisaab shadeed) and receiving the record of deeds from behind the back. Additionally, four of Allah’s Beautiful Names (Asma’ al-Husna) are mentioned in this Surah: Rabb, Allah, A‘lam, and Baseer.
Summary of the surah: This Surah follows a structured sequence: Mention of some states of resurrection (hashr) at the beginning. The central claim of the Surah up to verse (6). Glad tidings (bashaarah) for those who strive in righteous deeds (ahl al-kadh saalih) with three conditions up to verse (9). Warning (takhweef) for those who engage in evil deeds (ahl al-kadh sayyi’), mentioning three states and three reasons for punishment, up to verse (15). Three evidences for resurrection (ba‘th ba‘dal-mawt), up to verse (19). Rebuke and warning (zajr wa takhweef) through four matters, up to verse (24). Finally, the Surah ends with glad tidings (bashaarah).

[1,2] These conditions occur when the world is annihilated, and destruction mostly begins from above; for this reason, the mention of the sky comes first. (وَحُقَّتْ)—Haq means suitable and appropriate, or it means obligatory and necessary. The reason for Haq is that Allah, the Exalted, is the Creator and Owner, and obeying the Creator and Owner is obligatory. Even in the sky, Allah, the Exalted, has placed the awareness of obedience.
[3,4,5] (مُدَّتْ)—It will be stretched in such a way that its pits and mountains will be removed from it. In a hadith, it is mentioned that it will be stretched like the skin is pulled off an animal so that all creatures may stand upon it for reckoning. (مَا فِيهَا)—Inside it are the dead, as well as treasures and minerals.
[6] This is the claim of the Surah. The meaning of (الْإِنْسَانُ) is the human race, whether a person is good or bad. (كَادِحٌ)—In language, kadḥ means to work and strive with great hardship, whether the action is good or evil.
[7,8,9] This verse provides details about both types of striving individuals. It contains glad tidings. (يَسِيرًا)—In an authentic hadith, it is mentioned that the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) said: "Whoever is subjected to a detailed reckoning is doomed." Aisha (May Allah be pleased with her) asked, "But Allah, the Exalted, has said that even the people of the right will be accounted for?" The Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) replied, "That refers to a mere presentation (of deeds), meaning that their deeds will be brought forth before them, and they will fear, but then Allah, the Exalted, will say to them: 'I have forgiven all of this for you.'" (إِلَى أَهْلِهِ)—This refers to the people of Paradise, including the houris and youthful servants, as well as those among their worldly family who have entered Paradise. (مَسْرُورًا)—This is in recompense for the hardships and sorrows they endured in the world.
