إِلَيْهِ يُرَدَُّ 1192 الزخرف

وَلَنْ يَنْفَعَكُمُ الْيَوْمَ إِذْ ظَلَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ ﴿۳۹﴾ أَفَأَنْتَ تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ أَوْ تَهْدِي الْعُمْيَ وَمَنْ كَانَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ ﴿۴۰﴾ فَإِمَّا نَذْهَبَنَّ بِكَ فَإِنَّا مِنْهُمْ مُنْتَقِمُونَ ﴿۴۱﴾ أَوْ نُرِيَنَّكَ الَّذِي وَعَدْنَاهُمْ فَإِنَّا عَلَيْهِمْ مُقْتَدِرُونَ ﴿۴۲﴾ فَاسْتَمْسِكْ بِالَّذِي أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ إِنَّكَ عَلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ ﴿۴۳﴾

﴾39﴿ Wa lai yanfa'akumul Yawma iz zalamtum annakum fil 'azaabi mushtarikoon
﴾40﴿ Afa anta tusmi'us summa aw tahdil 'umya wa man kaana fee dalaalin mubeen
﴾41﴿ Fa immaa nazhabanna bika fa innaa minhum muntaqimoon
﴾42﴿ Aw nuriyannakal lazee wa'adnaahum fa innaa 'alaihim muqtadiroon
﴾43﴿ Fastamsik billazeee oohiya ilaika innaka 'alaa Siraatin Mustaqeem

﴾39﴿ And it will never benefit you today, since you have wronged (by associating partners with Allah), that you are sharing in the punishment
﴾40﴿ So can you make the deaf hear, or guide the blind and those who are in clear misguidance
﴾41﴿ So if We take you away, then indeed, We will surely take retribution from them
﴾42﴿ Or We show you that punishment which We have promised them, for indeed, We have full power over them
﴾43﴿ So hold firmly to what has been revealed to you; indeed, you are on the straight path

[39] This verse is also part of the warning, and it answers an implied question:
Is it easier to bear a punishment when it is widespread and many people are sharing in it?
The answer is: the punishment of Hell does not become easier just because more people are involved.
Or, it may be asked: do regrets and sorrows lessen when everyone is expressing grief together?
The answer is: that too brings no benefit—shared sorrow does not reduce the pain or lighten the burden.
[40] These verses offer consolation to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) in various ways.
In this verse, the first method of consolation is mentioned: if these people turn away from the Qur'an and do not believe, then there is no burden upon you—
because the obstacle lies on their side, as they are deaf and blind toward the Qur'an.
[41,42] This is the second method of consolation: that We will certainly punish these deniers—either after your migration, or after your passing, or even during your lifetime. So do not be concerned.
Similar statements have appeared in Surah Yūnus (10:46), Surah Raʿd (13:40), and Surah Ghāfir (40:77).
According to reports from Ḥasan and Qatādah, the fulfillment of these verses was the occurrence of trials (fitan) among the Muslims after the passing of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
Allah the Exalted showed the Prophet the state of the ummah during his lifetime in a way that pleased him, and only after his passing did the trials begin.
This was an honor from Allah for the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace), because during the lives of previous prophets (peace be upon them), punishments would befall their nations while they were still alive.
[43] This verse provides encouragement (tashjīʿ) to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) following the previous consolations.
It means: whether these people accept or reject, you must remain firm upon the Book of Allah—through its explanation, its practice, and using it as evidence.
The phrase (إِنَّكَ) is connected to the earlier reasoning: whoever is upon the Straight Path (ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm), it is necessary for them to hold firmly to the Book of Allah.
This also proves that the way of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) is indeed the Straight Path.
