اتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَْ 1006 السجدة

فَذُوقُوا بِمَا نَسِيتُمْ لِقَاءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا إِنَّا نَسِينَاكُمْ وَذُوقُوا عَذَابَ الْخُلْدِ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿۱۴﴾ إِنَّمَا يُؤْمِنُ بِآيَاتِنَا الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهَا خَرُّوا سُجَّدًا وَسَبَّحُوا بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ۩ ࣛ ﴿۱۵﴾ تَتَجَافَى جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ خَوْفًا وَطَمَعًا وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنْفِقُونَ ﴿۱۶﴾ فَلَا تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ مَا أُخْفِيَ لَهُمْ مِنْ قُرَّةِ أَعْيُنٍ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ﴿۱۷﴾

﴾14﴿ Fazooqoo bimaa naseetum liqaaa'a yawmikum haaza innaa naseenaakum wa zooqoo 'azaabal khuldi bimaa kuntum ta'maloon
﴾15﴿ Innamaa yu'minu bi aayaatinal lazeena izaa zukkiroo bihaa kharroo sujjadanw wa sabbahoo bihamdi rabbihim wa hum laa yastakbiroon (make sajda)
﴾16﴿ Tatajaafaa junoobuhum 'anil madaaji'i yad'oona rabbahum khawfanw wa tama'anw wa mimmaa razaqnaahum yunfiqoon
﴾17﴿ Falaa ta'lamu nafsum maaa ukhfiya lahum min qurrati a'yunin jazaaa'am bimaa kaanoo ya'maloon

﴾14﴿ (And it will be said,) Taste [the punishment] for your having forgotten the meeting of this Day of yours. Indeed, We [too] have forgotten you. And taste the eternal punishment for what you used to do
﴾15﴿ Only those who believe in Our signs are the ones who, when they are reminded of them, fall in prostration and glorify the praise of their Lord, and they do not act arrogantly
﴾16﴿ Their sides stay away from their beds; they call upon their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend from what We have provided them
﴾17﴿ So no soul knows what delights of the eyes have been hidden for them as a reward for what they used to do

[14] This too falls under the category of warning.
The reason for the punishment is mentioned as forgetting the Day of Judgment, because denial of the Resurrection becomes a cause for other forms of disbelief.
[15] This describes the state of the believers, following the mention of the disbelievers, to show the contrast—and it serves as glad tidings.
In this verse, three qualities of the believers are mentioned:
1. Physical action – which is prostration (sajdah).
2. Verbal action – which is glorifying and praising Allah (tasbih and hamd).
3. Inner action – which is the absence of arrogance (not being prideful).
These are the signs of a true believer according to the Qur’an.
[16] In the previous verse, their daytime state was mentioned; in this verse, their nighttime state is described.
This, too, has three parts:
1. They keep their sides away from their beds — The mention of al-maḍājiʿ (beds) implies that they engage in worship throughout the night, because beds are for rest, yet they do not spend the whole night resting on them.
Since it is the Sunnah to lie on the right side when sleeping, the word junoob (sides) is mentioned.
2. They call upon their Lord — This is expressed as a ḥāliyyah (circumstantial) sentence, indicating that their avoidance of the bed is not like that of the disobedient or corrupt, but rather for the purpose of worship.
3. From what We have provided them — That is, alongside physical worship, they also perform financial worship, sacrificing their wealth for the religion of Allah, for its propagation and invitation.
[17] This is a promise of the Hereafter, based on the previously mentioned causes.
“So no soul knows…” — This phrase carries strong emphasis and exaggeration, highlighting the greatness of the blessings of Paradise.
In a hadith it is mentioned: “What no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and has never occurred to the heart of a human being.”
This is because the perception of the senses is limited, while the blessings of Paradise are infinite.
