أَمَّنْ خَلَقََْ 969 العنکبوت

وَلَمَّا جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْبُشْرَى قَالُوا إِنَّا مُهْلِكُو أَهْلِ هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ إِنَّ أَهْلَهَا كَانُوا ظَالِمِينَ ﴿۳۱﴾ قَالَ إِنَّ فِيهَا لُوطًا قَالُوا نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ فِيهَا لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ ﴿۳۲﴾ وَلَمَّا أَنْ جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّا مُنَجُّوكَ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَكَ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ ﴿۳۳﴾

﴾31﴿ Wa lammaa jaaa'at Rusulunaaa Ibraaheema bil bushraa qaalooo innaa muhlikoo ahli haazihil qaryati inna ahlahaa kaanoo zaalimeen
﴾32﴿ Qaala inna feeha Lootaa; qaaloo nahnu a'lamu biman feehaa lanunajjjiyannahoo wa ahlahooo illam ra atahoo kaanat minal ghaabireen
﴾33﴿ Wa lammaaa an jaaa'at Rusulunaa Lootan seee'a bihim wa daaqa bihim zar'anw wa qaaloo laa takhaf wa laa tahzan innaa munajjooka wa ahlaka illam ra ataka kaanat minal ghaabireen

﴾31﴿ And when Our angels came to Abraham with good tidings, they said, Indeed, we are to destroy the inhabitants of this city, for its inhabitants have been unjust
﴾32﴿ Abraham (peace be upon him) said, Indeed, Lot is there. They replied, We know well who is there. We will surely save him and his family, except his wife, who will be among those who remain behind
﴾33﴿ And when Our angels came to Lot, he became distressed because of them and felt constrained. They said, Do not fear nor grieve. Indeed, we will save you and your family, except your wife; she will be among those who remain behind

[31] His prayer was accepted, and Allah the Exalted sent the angels — first as bearers of glad tidings to Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and then as bringers of news about Lut (peace be upon him).
The wisdom in this is that if a disbelieving nation is destroyed, it is not a problem — because Allah the Exalted replaces them with a righteous individual.
"(With glad tidings - بِالْبُشْرَى)" — the apparent meaning is that this refers to the glad tidings of the birth of Ishaq (peace be upon him).
"(Indeed, we will destroy - إِنَّا مُهْلِكُو)" — this is the second glad tiding, but Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was not content with the first glad tiding alone.
[32] The intention of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was to delay the punishment upon this people, in the hope that they might believe.
He mentioned the reason for this request — that Lut (peace be upon him) was still among them, and as long as a prophet is present in his nation, punishment does not descend upon them.
"(We will surely save him - لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُ)" — since the angels are messengers (rusul), their speech represents the speech of the One who sent them (Allah),
so it becomes clear that the statement "We know best - نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ" is actually the speech of Allah the Exalted.
[33] In this verse, the particle "أَنْ" is used, whereas in the previous mention it was not — the reason is that "أَنْ" indicates connection.
The previous statement of the angels was not immediately connected to their arrival, but in this verse, the grief of Lut (peace be upon him) was directly connected to the arrival of the angels.
A further explanation of this is found in Surah Hud.
"(Do not fear - لَا تَخَفْ)" — meaning: do not fear for us (the angels).
"(And do not grieve - وَلَا تَحْزَنْ)" — and do not be sorrowful over the punishment and destruction of your people.
"(She was of those who stayed behind - كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ)" — the difference between verses (32) and (33) is:
In verse (32), the meaning is that she shared their belief (i.e., the wife of Lut was ideologically aligned with them),
and in verse (33), the point is that she shared their punishment.
