قَدْ أَفْلَحَْ 866 الفرقان

قُلْ أَذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ أَمْ جَنَّةُ الْخُلْدِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ كَانَتْ لَهُمْ جَزَاءً وَمَصِيرًا ﴿۱۵﴾ لَهُمْ فِيهَا مَا يَشَاءُونَ خَالِدِينَ كَانَ عَلَى رَبِّكَ وَعْدًا مَسْئُولًا ﴿۱۶﴾ وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَيَقُولُ أَأَنْتُمْ أَضْلَلْتُمْ عِبَادِي هَؤُلَاءِ أَمْ هُمْ ضَلُّوا السَّبِيلَ ﴿۱۷﴾ قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ مَا كَانَ يَنْبَغِي لَنَا أَنْ نَتَّخِذَ مِنْ دُونِكَ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاءَ وَلَكِنْ مَتَّعْتَهُمْ وَآبَاءَهُمْ حَتَّى نَسُوا الذِّكْرَ وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا بُورًا ﴿۱۸﴾

﴾15﴿ Qul azaalika khairun am Jannatul khuldil latee wu'idal muttaqoon; kaanat lahum jazaaa'anw wa maseeraa
﴾16﴿ Lahum feehaa maa yashaaa'oona khaalideen; kaana 'alaa Rabbika wa'dan mas'oolaa
﴾17﴿ Wa Yawma yahshuruhum wa maa ya'budoona min doonil laahi fa yaqoolu 'a-antum adlaltum 'ibaadee haaa'ulaaa'i am hum dallus sabeel
﴾18﴿ Qaaloo Subhaanaka maa kaana yanbaghee lanaaa an nattakhiza min doonika min awliyaaa'a wa laakin matta'tahum wa aabaaa'ahum hattaa nasooz zikra wa kaanoo qawman booraa

﴾15﴿ Say, "Is this better, or the eternal paradise that has been promised to the righteous? For them, there is a reward and a place of return
﴾16﴿ For them, there are blessings they desire, everlasting. This is a promise from your Lord, requested
﴾17﴿ And on the Day We gather these polytheists and those they worship besides Allah, He will say, Did you mislead My servants, these (polytheists), or did they stray from the path themselves
﴾18﴿ They will say, "Glory be to You! It was not for us to take any protectors besides You. But You gave them and their forefathers enjoyment of worldly life until they forgot the remembrance (of You) and became a ruined people

[15,16] In these verses, there is good news and a description of Paradise in six aspects:
1. Jannat al-Khuld (the eternal garden) which has been promised.
2. As a reward.
3. As a destination.
4. For them is whatever they desire.
5. The eternal residence of the people of Paradise.
6. Wa‘dan mas’ūlā (a promised responsibility).
The point here is that the righteous ask for this, as mentioned in Surah Al-Imran (3:194). The second meaning is that mas’ūl means obligatory — that Allah the Exalted makes it incumbent upon Himself to fulfill it, like an obligation. Although nothing can be truly obligatory upon Allah the Exalted, it is referred to as an obligation and a gracious right (a right of grace).
[17] This is a warning of the Hereafter, expressed through the disavowal of false deities from their worshippers. In this verse, angels, prophets, and the righteous are meant—those whom the polytheists used to worship and believed to be sources of blessings. These ignorant ones made idols of them and claimed that these righteous individuals had given them the command to worship them, saying, "We are responsible for you." Therefore, to hold them accountable, those righteous ones will be questioned on the Day of Judgment, just as Jesus (peace be upon him) is questioned at the end of Surah Al-Ma'idah for this very purpose.
The phrase "Did you mislead My servants?" refers to leading people astray, though these righteous ones had no power to misguide anyone.
[18] This is an addition to the answer and a proof that we did not call towards misguidance, because we hold the belief in Tawhid and recognize no one besides You as having control, ownership, or being worthy of worship.
A monotheist does not call anyone to shirk.
The phrase "But You granted them enjoyment" mentions the cause of their misguidance—meaning, despite their associating partners with Allah, You fulfilled their needs and those of their forefathers and granted them worldly benefits.
As a result, they thought shirk was the true religion and forgot Tawhid. Because of this, they were ruined.
