قَدْ أَفْلَحَْ 858 النور

وَإِذَا بَلَغَ الْأَطْفَالُ مِنْكُمُ الْحُلُمَ فَلْيَسْتَأْذِنُوا كَمَا اسْتَأْذَنَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ كَذَلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ آيَاتِهِ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ ﴿۵۹﴾ وَالْقَوَاعِدُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ اللَّاتِي لَا يَرْجُونَ نِكَاحًا فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِنَّ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ ثِيَابَهُنَّ غَيْرَ مُتَبَرِّجَاتٍ بِزِينَةٍ وَأَنْ يَسْتَعْفِفْنَ خَيْرٌ لَهُنَّ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ ﴿۶۰﴾

﴾59﴿ Wa izaa balaghal atfaalu minkumul huluma fal yasta'zinoo kamas ta'zanal lazeena min qablihim; kazaalika yubaiyinul laahu lakum Aayaatih; wallaahu 'Aleemun Hakeem
﴾60﴿ Walqawaa'idu minan nisaaa'il laatee laa yarjoona nikaahan fa laisa 'alaihinna junaahun ai yada'na siyaabahunna ghaira mutabarrijaatin bi zeenah; wa ai yasta'fif na khairul lahunn; wallaahu Samee'un 'Aleem

﴾59﴿ And when the children among you reach puberty, let them seek permission (at all times) as those before them (who have grown up) have done. Thus, Allah makes His rulings clear to you, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise
﴾60﴿ And as for elderly women who have no desire for marriage, there is no blame upon them if they lay aside their outer garments, provided they do not display their adornment. But to remain modest is better for them. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing

[59] This is a continuation of the previous law—meaning that when these children (offspring) reach puberty, they must then seek permission at all times, just as stated in verse 27.
The phrase (الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ) refers to those who reached puberty before them, and the general ruling for them has already been mentioned in verse 27.
At the end of both verses, the phrase (كَذَلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ آيَاتِهِ) is mentioned for emphasis.
Since the next verse refers back to the ruling of the previous verse, it uses the word "آيَاتِهِ" (His verses) to signal this connection. And in the earlier verse, where the ruling was more general, the word "الآيَاتِ" (the verses) is used.
[60] This second law is for removing hardship, along with emphasizing modesty.
In (وَالْقَوَاعِدُ), the reference is to elderly women who have become unable to fulfill the general physical needs associated with women.
(اللَّاتِي لَا يَرْجُونَ نِكَاحًا) – this trait indicates that they have reached the end of life, and any special desire or inclination toward marriage has ended. In such a state, there is no risk of moral corruption from either side.
(ثِيَابَهُنَّ) – refers to outer garments, such as the ḥijāb or large outer cloak.
(غَيْرَ مُتَبَرِّجَاتٍ بِزِينَةٍ) – means they do not abandon the outer garment in order to show off their beauty. Nor do they expose parts of their body such as the chest, neck, arms, and legs to non-mahram men. Nor do they apply colors or beautification to their face, lips, hands, or feet.
(وَأَنْ يَسْتَعْفِفْنَ) – this points to two types of rulings:
1. Farewell – the firm, preferred ruling, which is better to follow.
2. Allowed – the permitted concession, which is allowed to follow.
