قَدْ أَفْلَحَْ 842 النور

لَوْلَا جَاءُوا عَلَيْهِ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ فَإِذْ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بِالشُّهَدَاءِ فَأُولَئِكَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ ﴿۱۳﴾ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِي مَا أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ ﴿۱۴﴾ إِذْ تَلَقَّوْنَهُ بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ وَتَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَاهِكُمْ مَا لَيْسَ لَكُمْ بِهِ عِلْمٌ وَتَحْسَبُونَهُ هَيِّنًا وَهُوَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَظِيمٌ ﴿۱۵﴾ وَلَوْلَا إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ قُلْتُمْ مَا يَكُونُ لَنَا أَنْ نَتَكَلَّمَ بِهَذَا سُبْحَانَكَ هَذَا بُهْتَانٌ عَظِيمٌ ﴿۱۶﴾ يَعِظُكُمُ اللَّهُ أَنْ تَعُودُوا لِمِثْلِهِ أَبَدًا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿۱۷﴾ وَيُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمُ الْآيَاتِ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ ﴿۱۸﴾

﴾13﴿ Law laa jaaa'oo 'alaihi bi-arba'ati shuhadaaa'; fa iz lam yaatoo bishshuhadaaa'i fa ulaaa 'ika 'indal laahi humul kaaziboon
﴾14﴿ Wa law laa fadlul laahi 'alaikum wa rahmatuhoo fiddunyaa wal aakhirati lamassakum fee maaa afadtum feehi 'azaabun 'azeem
﴾15﴿ Iz talaqqawnahoo bi alsinatikum wa taqooloona bi afwaahikum maa laisa lakum bihee 'ilmunw wa tahsaboo nahoo haiyinanw wa huwa 'indal laahi 'azeem
﴾16﴿ Wa law laaa iz sami'tu moohu qultum maa yakoonu lanaaa an natakallama bihaazaa Subhaanaka haaza buhtaanun 'azeem
﴾17﴿ Ya'izukumul laahu an ta'oodoo limisliheee abadan in kuntum mu'mineen
﴾18﴿ Wa yubaiyinul laahu lakumul Aayaat; wallaahu 'Aleemun Hakeem

﴾13﴿ Why do they not bring forth four witnesses for this, So, if they do not bring witnesses, then in the sight of Allah, they are indeed the liars
﴾14﴿ And if it were not for the grace of Allah, the Most High, upon you and His mercy in this world and the Hereafter, a great punishment would have touched you for that which you plunged into
﴾15﴿ When you were receiving it with your tongues and speaking with your mouths that of which you had no knowledge, and you thought it was insignificant, while it was, in the sight of Allah, a great sin
﴾16﴿ And why was it not that, when you heard it, you said, It is not for us to speak of this. Glory be to You (O Allah); this is a great slander
﴾17﴿ Allah admonishes you never to repeat the likes of this, if you are believers
﴾18﴿ And Allah makes clear to you the rulings, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise

[13] In this verse, there is a warning for the hypocrites, and it explains the reason for the previous ruling—meaning, since they cannot present four witnesses, then why do they assume guilt about the believers without legal proof?
"(عِنْدَ اللَّهِ)"—this refers to the ruling of the Shariah, meaning in such matters, assumptions have no value. Rather, if there is no legal proof established, then the accuser can be judged as a liar.
[14] In this verse, there is consolation and encouragement for the believers. The meaning of fadl (grace) is the warning and punishment directed at the hypocrites for slandering the believers. The meaning of rahmah (mercy) is the mention of good etiquettes, which are beneficial both in this world and the Hereafter.
[15] In this verse, again there is a warning directed at the hypocrites, and it explains the reason for the previous message—that they deserve punishment. The warning here is regarding three actions:
1. Spreading statements from one another without verification.
2. Speaking without evidence.
3. Considering a major sin as something minor and ordinary.
These are all characteristics of the hypocrites.
[16] In this verse, the third etiquette for the believers is mentioned—meaning, while the hypocrites freely stir their tongues with such slander, it is necessary for the believers to restrain their tongues from it.
This contains a stronger emphasis than the first etiquette. The first only encouraged having good thoughts, whereas this one encourages openly rejecting and denouncing the slander.
[17] In this verse, another etiquette is mentioned for the believers—that is, to permanently refrain from ever engaging in slander or false accusations.
[18] In this verse, there is encouragement to implement these etiquettes. The meaning of "آیت" here refers to the etiquettes and the signs of the hypocrites.
