اقْتَرَبَ ْ 770 ٰالأنبياء

خُلِقَ الْإِنْسَانُ مِنْ عَجَلٍ سَأُرِيكُمْ آيَاتِي فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونِ ﴿۳۷﴾ وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَى هَذَا الْوَعْدُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ ﴿۳۸﴾ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَنْ وُجُوهِهِمُ النَّارَ وَلَا عَنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ ﴿۳۹﴾ بَلْ تَأْتِيهِمْ بَغْتَةً فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُنْظَرُونَ ﴿۴۰﴾

﴾37﴿ Khuliqal insaanu min 'ajal; sa ureekum Aayaatee falaa tasta'jiloon
﴾38﴿ Wa yaqooloona mataa haazal wa'du in kuntum saadiqeen
﴾39﴿ Law ya'lamul lazeena kafaroo heena laa yakuffoona 'anw wujoohihimun Naara wa laa 'an zuhoorihim wa laa hum yunsaroon
﴾40﴿ Bal ta'teehim baghtatan fatabhatuhum falaa yastatee'oona raddahaa wa laa hum yunzaroon

﴾37﴿ Man has been created of haste. Soon I will show you My signs, so do not ask Me to hasten them
﴾38﴿ And they say, When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful
﴾39﴿ If only the disbelievers knew [the reality of] that time when they will not be able to ward off the Fire from their faces or their backs, nor will they be helped
﴾40﴿ Rather, it will come upon them suddenly and astonish them, and they will be unable to repel it, nor will they be given any respite

[37] In this verse, there is a reprimand regarding the hastening of punishment. What is meant by man was created from haste is that haste is inherent in human nature—just as mentioned in Surah Ar-Rum (54), according to one interpretation, and in Surah Al-Isra (11).
Also, it is mentioned in a hadith: "Women were created from a bent rib," meaning there is a natural inclination in women towards subtle deviation—like the left rib. If you try to straighten it completely, it will break; otherwise, it will remain bent.
What is meant by My signs (āyātī) are examples of punishment and signs of Allah the Exalted’s power in taking revenge on the polytheists.
[38] In this verse, there is a reprimand and an explanation of the hastening mentioned in the previous verse.
Matā (When?) here implies rejection and denial of the Resurrection and punishment.
[39] In this verse, there is a compelling response—meaning, when the punishment comes, they will not be able to escape it, so why do they hasten it?
By mentioning faces and being surrounded, there is an indication that the fire of Hell will engulf them from all sides.
The jawāb (result clause) of the conditional law is omitted; the implied meaning is: had they known, they would not have hastened the punishment (lamā ista‘jalū al-‘adhāb).
[40] This verse is also connected to the previous one, showing that the disbelievers do not know the appointed time for the coming of the punishment—it will come suddenly.
Ta’tīhim (it will come to them): the pronoun refers either to the Resurrection or to the fire of Hell.
Benefit: In the context of punishment, help is appropriate for repelling it, and in the context of its arrival, respite is appropriate for escaping it.
For this reason, in the first verse, yunsarūn (they will be helped) is mentioned, and in the second, yunẓarūn (they will be given respite) is mentioned.
