ْقَالَ أَلَمْ 757 طٰهٰ
قَالَ اهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ مِنِّي هُدًى فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَى ﴿۱۲۳﴾ وَمَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْ ذِكْرِي فَإِنَّ لَهُ مَعِيشَةً ضَنْكًا وَنَحْشُرُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَعْمَى ﴿۱۲۴﴾ قَالَ رَبِّ لِمَ حَشَرْتَنِي أَعْمَى وَقَدْ كُنْتُ بَصِيرًا ﴿۱۲۵﴾ قَالَ كَذَلِكَ أَتَتْكَ آيَاتُنَا فَنَسِيتَهَا وَكَذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ تُنْسَى ﴿۱۲۶﴾ وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي مَنْ أَسْرَفَ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِنْ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِ وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَشَدُّ وَأَبْقَى ﴿۱۲۷﴾
﴾123﴿ Qaalah bita minhaa jamee'am ba'dukum liba'din 'aduww; fa immaa ya'tiyannakum minnee hudan famanit taba'a hudaaya falaa yadillu wa laa yashqaa
﴾124﴿ Wa man a'rada 'an Zikree fa inna lahoo ma'eeshatan dankanw wa nahshuruhoo Yawmal Qiyaamati a'maa
﴾125﴿ Qaala Rabbi lima hashar tanee a'maa wa qad kuntu baseeraa
﴾126﴿ Qaala kazaalika atatka Aayaatunaa fanaseetahaa wa kazaalikal Yawma tunsaa
﴾127﴿ Wa kazaalika najzee man asrafa wa lam yu'min bi Aayaati Rabbih; wa la'azaabul Aakhirati ashaddu wa abqaa
﴾123﴿ Allah the Exalted said, "Descend from here, all of you, some of you being enemies to others. Then, if guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray nor suffer misery
﴾124﴿ And whoever turns away from My remembrance, indeed, for them is a life of hardship, and We will raise them on the Day of Resurrection blind
﴾125﴿ And he will say, O my Lord, why have You raised me blind while I was once seeing
﴾126﴿ Allah the Exalted will say, Thus, Our signs came to you, but you forgot them, and so today you will be forgotten
﴾127﴿ And thus We recompense the one who transgresses (by associating partners with Allah) and does not believe in the signs of their Lord. And surely, the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and everlasting
[123] It is better to understand that the address in this verse is directed to both Adam (peace be upon him) and Iblis, and Hawwa is included as a follower of Adam (peace be upon him), as the following sentence indicates this.
Benefit: In Surah Al-A‘raf, the word ihbit (descend) was first mentioned for Iblis, and he tempted them before his descent. Then Allah addressed both Adam and Iblis in this verse.
Wherever the plural is used, it includes Hawwa (peace be upon her) as well. It is narrated from Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that this verse also includes the people of the Qur'an under fa-man tabi‘a—because all messengers and their scriptures are included in guidance.
It is stated that whoever recites the Qur'an and follows it will be saved from misguidance in this world and from misery in the Hereafter.
[124,125] In this verse, there is a warning, and the meaning of “reminder” is the Book of Allah, the true religion, and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and give him peace), as indicated by Tafsir al-Qurtubi.
The meaning of “narrow life” is either the hardship of worldly life or the punishment of the grave—the latter is narrated from Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri, Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud, and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with them).
The word ma‘īshah (life) implies that the person may have material means, food, drink, and worldly pleasures, but his heart will be constrained with anxiety and grief, and his grave will also be tight.
The meaning of “blind” is someone without guidance, and “seeing” refers to one who believes they have guidance—even though in this world they relied on false arguments, in the Hereafter they will not be able to use those, as mentioned in verse 66 of Surah Al-Qasas and verse 72 of Surah Al-Isra.
Alternatively, “blind” may literally mean blind, as in verse 97 of Surah Al-Isra, but this blindness occurs in a specific state and is not permanent, as in verse 22 of Surah Qaf.
[126] In this verse, the cause of the previous punishment is mentioned, and the meaning of forgetting is intentional abandonment (deliberate neglect).
[127] In this verse, the punishment is stated as being general for every polytheist, because the meaning of excess is committing shirk.
The meaning of "And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more lasting" is that the punishment of the Hereafter is more intense than the punishment of this world and the grave, and it is eternal—since the punishment of the world and the grave is not everlasting.
