وَمَا أُبَرِّئٍُ 572 الرعد

وَكَذَلِكَ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ حُكْمًا عَرَبِيًّا وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَاءَهُمْ بَعْدَمَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلَا وَاقٍ ﴿۳۷﴾ وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَذُرِّيَّةً وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ بِآيَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ ﴿۳۸﴾

﴾37﴿ Wa kazaalika anzalnaahu hukman 'Arabiyyaa; wa la'init taba'ta ahwaaa 'ahum ba'da maa jaaa'aka minal 'ilmi maa laka minal laahi minw waliyinw wa laa waaq
﴾38﴿ Wa laqad arsalnaa Rusulam min qablika wa ja'alnaa lahum azwaajanw wa zurriyyah; wa maa kaana lirasoolin ai ya'tiya bi aayatin illaa bi iznil laah; likulli ajalin kitaab

﴾37﴿ And thus We have revealed this Qur'an as a decisive word in clear Arabic. If you follow their desires after knowledge has come to you, you will have no protector or savior against Allah
﴾38﴿ And We have certainly sent messengers before you, and We appointed for them wives and offspring. And it is not for a messenger to bring a sign except by the permission of Allah. For every term, there is a decree

[37] In this verse, there is an encouragement to follow the Qur’an, emphasizing that it has been revealed for judgment and clear rulings—and that judgment was mentioned in the previous verse.
Then comes a rebuke to those who follow baseless opinions and desires (اهواء) after the truth of the Qur’an has already come. This is a warning against abandoning divine guidance in favor of personal or inherited opinions lacking any proof.
The phrase “وَكَذَٰلِكَ” is connected to the meaning of the previous content, i.e., Just as We commanded you with monotheism (tawḥid), likewise We revealed this Qur’an to settle matters clearly.
The “علم” referred to here is the knowledge of the Qur’an, meaning that after revelation, there is no valid excuse to follow anything based merely on human desire or guesswork.
[38] From this verse until the end of the surah is the sixth section (باب ششم). In this section, responses are given to the doubts raised about the Prophet’s message, especially by those who follow their desires. Here's the breakdown:
Verses 38–39: Address three main objections raised by the deniers of the Prophet's message. Verse 40: Offers consolation to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace). Verses 41–42: Contain a worldly warning to the rejecters. Verse 43: Includes both a rebuke for denying prophethood and a proof for its truth through testimony.
Verse 38 – Responses to Three Objections: 1. First Objection: "We do not accept this Prophet because he is a human like us, and he has a wife and children." Response: All previous Prophets were also humans, and many had wives and children. This also indirectly refutes the claim of some that “we are descendants of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him)” — if he wasn't a human, how could you descend from him?
2. Second Objection: "If he is truly a Prophet, why doesn't he bring miracles?" Response: “No Messenger can bring a sign except by Allah’s permission” — miracles are entirely under Allah’s will, not the Prophet’s choice. Similar statements are found in: Surah Ibrahim (14:11) Surah Al-An‘ām (6:109) Surah Al-‘Ankabūt (29:50)
3. Third Objection: "If he is truthful and we deny him, why hasn’t punishment come upon us?" Response: “For every term is a written decree (لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ)” — meaning, punishment is not sent immediately, but comes at its appointed time, according to Allah’s perfect wisdom.
