يَعْتَذِرُونَ 472 يونس
قَالُوا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ وَلَدًا سُبْحَانَهُ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ إِنْ عِنْدَكُمْ مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ بِهَذَا أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿۶۸﴾ قُلْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُونَ ﴿۶۹﴾ مَتَاعٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ ثُمَّ نُذِيقُهُمُ الْعَذَابَ الشَّدِيدَ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْفُرُونَ ﴿۷۰﴾
﴾68﴿ Qaalut takhazal laahu waladan Subhaanahoo Huwal Ghaniyyu lahoo maa fis samaawaati wa maa fil ard; in 'indakum min sultaanin bihaazaaa; a' taqooloona 'al allaahi maa laa ta'lamoon
﴾69﴿ Qul innal lazeena yaftaroona 'al allaahil kaziba laa yuflihoon
﴾70﴿ Mataa'un fiddunyaa thumma ilainaa marji'uhum thumma nuzeequhumul 'azaabash shadeeda bimaa kaanoo yakfuroon
﴾68﴿ They say, He is the beloved of Allah Almighty, and purity belongs to Allah Almighty. He is the self-sufficient, and His is what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. Is there any proof for this claim that you possess, Are you attributing to Allal Almighty that which you do not know
﴾69﴿ Surely those who lie against Allah, they cannot be saved (from the punishment of Allah)
﴾70﴿ Even if their enjoyment in this world is little, their return is to us. Then, we will make them taste a severe punishment because they disbelieve
[68] In this verse, there is a rebuke to those who attribute offspring to Allah the Exalted. It contains a refutation of their claim through five different approaches.
This is a response to the misconception of the polytheists, who used to say: “These deities are our intercessors, and they are absolutely beloved to Allah, like children. Therefore, their intercession is surely accepted by Allah.”
So the verse refutes this false belief.
The word (اتَّخَذَ) clearly indicates that what is meant here is not a real (biological) child, but rather a figurative or legal 'child'—in the sense that just as a child carries the traits and qualities of the father, the polytheists claimed that the awliyā’ (saints) possess divine traits, resembling those of Allah, and thus are worthy of worship or intercession.
Therefore, this verse disproves the idea that any being besides Allah can have divine attributes or be a necessary intermediary between creation and the Creator.
[69,70] In these two verses, there is a warning of the punishment of the Hereafter for those who attribute a child to Allah the Exalted.
(الْكَذِبَ) – refers specifically to the falsehood of attributing a child or partners to Allah.
(مَتَاعٌ) – This is the answer to a possible objection: If such people are not among the successful, then why have they been given wealth, honor, and long lives?
The response is: This is merely a portion of the worldly life—temporary enjoyment that Allah also gives to disbelievers. It is a form of respite (مهلت), not a sign of divine approval.
The word (لَهُمْ) is understood and implied in the sentence—meaning: this worldly enjoyment is for them, for a time.
