وَمِنْهُمُ الَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ النَّبِيَّ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ أُذُنٌ قُلْ أُذُنُ خَيْرٍ لَكُمْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَيُؤْمِنُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ﴿۶۱﴾ يَحْلِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ لَكُمْ لِيُرْضُوكُمْ وَاللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُرْضُوهُ إِنْ كَانُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿۶۲﴾

﴾61﴿ Wa minhumul lazeena yu'zoonan nabiyya wa yaqooloona huwa uzun; qul uzunu khairil lakum yu'minu billaahi wa yu'minu lil mu'mineena wa rahmatul lil lazeena aamanoo minkum; wallazeena yu'zoona Rasoolal laahi lahum 'azaabun 'aleem
﴾62﴿ Yahlifoona billaahi lakum liyurdookum wallaahu wa Rasooluhoo ahaqqu ai yurdoohu in kaanoo mu'mineen

﴾61﴿ And some of them are those who silence the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and say that he accepts every word Say, He accepts the good word from you. He believes in Allah, the Exalted, and accepts the word of the believers. He is a mercy to those of you who believe And those who suffocate the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for them is a painful punishment
﴾62﴿ They swear by Allah Almighty for you that they will please you, and Allah Almighty and His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, deserve that they should please them, if they are believers

[61] This is a warning to the hypocrites, and it mentions two of their reprehensible traits.
The point is that they used to speak ill of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) behind his back and sought to find faults in him.
If they were told, “If the Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) finds out, he will be upset with you,” they would reply, “He believes whatever he hears. Even if we make a false excuse, he will surely accept it.”
In response, it was said that this Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) believes in Allah the Exalted and accepts the words of the believers. He does not accept the statements of the hypocrites.
(أُذُنٌ) – literally means “ear,” but here it refers to someone who listens and accepts everything they hear. Thus, calling him أُذُنٌ is meant as an exaggerated expression implying that he believes every word or excuse, which is what the hypocrites mockingly implied.
[62] This verse is also a warning to the hypocrites, and it mentions one of their disgraceful traits: they strive to please people through false oaths, while they anger Allah the Exalted and His Messenger (May Allah bless him and give him peace).
(أَنْ يُرْضُوهُ) – only one pronoun is used here, because the pleasure of Allah and His Messenger is the same.
According to al-Baydawi, the pronoun refers to Allah the Exalted, while according to Sibawayh, it refers to the Messenger.
